C'est à Baraboo, dans le Wisconsin, que en 1884 les frères Ringling fondèrent leur cirque.
En 1954 John M Kelly ( ancien avocat des frères Ringling) eu l'idée de fonder le Circus World Muséum dans les anciens quartiers d'hiver du plus grand cirque du monde.
le musée et le parc ouvrirent au publique en 1959.
Entre 1963 et 2009 chaqués années ou presque le musée sortait de ses murs chargeait un train et allait défilé à Milwaukee.
